La Table d'Olivier Leflaive

This has to be a wine buff’s dream location. What a simple concept and how successfully delivered! Here you have the chance to taste a whole range of burgundies over a simple yet excellent set menu. Those who have been regular visitors will remember Pascal Wagner who oversaw the transition over to the new Hotel. As happens, Pascal has moved on to, I think, take a degree and he has been replaced by Julie Leflaive, Olivier’s daughter, who happily for us speaks excellent English. The format is that you work up from the basic chardonnays to the top wines. These are only tastings, so the glasses are not heavily charged, but the selection makes for a most enjoyable lunch.

The original “La Table” that we have visited several times was such a successful formula that the Leflaive brothers have acquired a house on the opposite side of the square and opened a larger restaurant and a 13 bedroom hotel. The hotel (La Maison d’Olivier Leflaive) is very elegant, combining a period building with modern fittings. The restaurant offers a menu that is designed to complement the range of Domaine wines that are divided into two flights. A meal like this in the heart of Puligny Montrachet? What more could one ask for? It is very popular, so booking is essential.

La Maison, situated on the Place du Monument in Puligny, is a recent addition to Olivier Leflaive Freres. It combines the old world charm of a stone town house with the latest modern comforts. The bedrooms are elegantly and comfortably furnished, each to an individual style and are equipped with air conditioning for those who feel the need for it.

The walled courtyard is a charming feature, allowing you to take an aperitif or a coffee outside in warm weather and the Domaine has conference meeting facilities a short walk from the hotel. To be able to host a business meeting in such lovely surroundings really is very appealing and could easily become habit forming. We have tried it! read more...

A stay for the night is about e150, including continental breakfast and the restaurant provides the menu degustation at lunchtime and is also open in the evening. The lunchtimes are frequently full, so booking really is essential.

La Maison d'Olivier Leflaive - Click to enlarge .. A little while ago a house in Puligny Montrachet came up for sale, on the opposite side of the square to the original Table d’Hote. As the menu degustation had been proving a highly successful formula since its launch and the tiny restaurant was invariably full, the Domaine took the opportunity to buy the house and convert it into an extremely comfortable hotel, with a much bigger dining area.
Now fully operational (the first time we visited it, there were workmen all over, trying to finish it by the week-end when it was already fully booked) it offers some comfortable and elegantly furnished bedrooms, a lovely small courtyard and reception area as well as, of course, the now famous lunchtime Table d’Hote, which has been extended to include a more normal restaurant dinner menu. La Maison is more like someone’s home than an hotel. .. The courtyard of La Maison d'Olivier Leflaive - Click to enlarge

In addition to the usual facilities, the original Table d’Hote across the street has been turned into a really elegant meeting room, where the huge fireplace dominates the room. Both are well situated in one of the main squares of the village where there is almost no traffic and Olivier’s offices and cuverie are only a matter of 50 paces away down a side street.

Biking in Burgundy, Leflaive and Detour in France

...In the interest of our waist we biked through villages such as Pommard, Volnay and Meursault to get to Puligny-Montrachet, these names appear on the bottles of some of France's best wines. Of course when we sat with Olivier Leflaive at his cellars and hotel for lunch we did our best to devour fine bottles of wine and copious amounts of great dishes. The table in the courtyard sagged with delights and no surrender was offered, the bright sun shone and Olivier's stories made the timy fly by, he is also a splendid guitarist. The man is a charm and the vineyards no place to hold back, I didn't ! Thanks Sarah and Detours in France for a fantastic day.

Maison d'Olivier LEFLAIVE - Corney&Barrow - www.corneyandbarrow.com

This beautiful town-house hotel sits on the main square in Puligny. Once the decaying home of an ageing local, Olivier has restored it lovingly and creatively with the help of his sister. In a confident juxtaposition of tradition and modernity, each room has its own distinct character - from romance to animal print - making it a refreshing and relaxing discovery.

We can highly recommend a stay here, as it provides the perfect setting for a glass of Olivier's exceptional wines.

Aston Martin Owner Club - April 2008

Domaine Olivier Leflaive Frères is one of the best producers in the village and the Domaine own vineyards throughout the Cote de Beaune. While their reputation was originally built on their whites, they are now equally adept with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and we tasted through an extensive selective of their wines, both red and white. Patrick Leflaive had arranged for the tasting to take place in his excellent restaurant, and prepared dishes to show the versatility of Burgundy wines in pairing them with a range of foods. Great white Burgundy, such as the Puligny 1er Cru, has the elegance to complement fish dishes, but also the power to work with meat dishes. Similarly, the reds of Pommard and Volnay were perfect with either white or red meat, and some powerful cheeses.

BIEN PUBLIC - March 3, 2008

"Olivier Leflaive has proposed for a few years, of the tables of hosts. He receives thus with lunching, of Monday at Saturday, the amateurs who want to taste his wines. Food is not there that to allow to taste 14 wines and during the meal, a cellarman&sommelier gives all the explanations desired by the guests. It thus receives 7 000 guests per annum who are as many consumers who set out again then with whole bottles or cases. The concept evolved to the hotel 4 stars which makes it possible to remain on the spot. In spite of the investment that represents, these formulas are very profitable in long term. There is two different in Côte de Beaune and Olivier Leflaive militates so that others still can be born, in particular in Côte de Nuits."

GOURMET - THE MAGAZINE OF GOOD LIVING - March 2008

"In Puligny-Montrachet, one of Burgundy's most famous wine villages, La Maison d'Olivier Leflaive is everybody's dream of a French country hotel-stylish, comfortable, friendly, and also owned by a member of one of the region's most renowned wine families. The 12 rooms are individually decorated and the flat-screen TVs fit right in with the sleek aesthetic. The hotel makes a great base for exploring the surrounding wine villages. Best of all, it has a bistrot à vins with a terrific selection from Leflaive's cellars."
